Champagne Mangos. Mmmm. I’ve been anxiously awaiting my fruit of the month club shipment of mangos from Harry & David since I first signed up for monthly shipments and discovered that June’s shipment was champagne mangos. Oh how I love mangos. They are my favorite fruit!
As usual, my box of fruit arrived with the fruit perfectly nestled in green foam, safe and sound from the hazards of shipping. Each mango was beautiful in color and perfectly shaped. Some months, the fruit arrives ready for consumption immediately. Other times, the fruit needs a few days to ripen. This was the case with the champagne mangos. They were just a few days away from being soft and tender, so we waited to eat them. The only thing that made those few days go by more easily, was the knowledge of how deliciously delicate and tender the sweet fruit would be upon ripening. We couldn’t have been more correct.
When researching the fruit, I was surprised to learn that mangos didn’t become part of the U.S. diet until the late 18oo’s. So in reference to other fruits, the mango is relatively new to us. However, the mango is referred to as the King of Fruits, so it looks like the United States is simply late in the game to partake of its amazing flavor. Other countries have included mangos in their meditations, poetry, and cuisine for centuries. Although there are hundreds of mango varieties, only a few are available to us in the United States, with champagne mangos being one of the tasty fruit of the month club offerings that Harry & David ships directly to their customers.
Interestingly, the plural form of mango can be spelled with or without an ‘e’. So whether you like to spell it as ‘mangos’ or ‘mangoes’, it does not matter. It does matter, however, that you will always be completely satisfied with your fruit shipment from Harry & David. They are a fabulous company that ships fabulous fruit in a fabulous way. Right to your door! Try Harry & David now!
